Curriculum Review: The Good and the Beautiful Science
Science has always been a subject that we have struggled to find our footing in. That’s a little odd, because I have always loved science, but apparently I prefer learning about it to teaching it? It’s been difficult to find a curriculum that fit my teaching style, Claire’s learning style and combines good books with experiments. The Good and the Beautiful is a newer curriculum that has become fairly popular in the homeschooling community over the last couple of years. When we were struggling with science, I decided to give it a try. Their Marine Biology unit was completely free, so it didn’t hurt to give it a try. We…

Curriculum Review: Miquon Math
Math. It seems to be the most dreaded subject for many students and parents alike. And when you’re the one in charge of educating your child, math seems that much more daunting. Enter Miquon. Miquon Math is totally different than most math curriculums out there and when I was considering using it, it was difficult to find much information on it. I thought I would share my thoughts on this little known math curriculum. (While this isn’t a sponsored post, this post does contain affiliate links. Curriculum Review: Brave Writer’s Jot It Down!
Time for another curriculum review! If you’ve been a reader for a while, you’ve likely noticed our love for Brave Writer. In fact, as we’ve grown and explored our homeschool style, we’ve switched up every area of our curriculum except for Brave Writer! Brave Writer is a language arts program. It’s unique in the way it addresses the different aspects of writing. They offer literature guides (Dart for ages 8-10, Arrow for ages 11-12 and Boomerang for junior high and high school) that teach the mechanics of writing (grammar, punctuation, etc) through copywork and amazing read alouds. You can check out my review of the Arrow guides here. For helping a child…

Curriculum Review: Brave Writer Arrow Guides
It’s curriculum review time again! I’ve been enjoying writing reviews about curriculums we have used, especially ones we’ve enjoyed. Today I’m talking about my all time favorite curriculum … Brave Writer! As we’ve found our footing in homeschooling, there has been a lot of changes we’ve made, particularly with curriculum. Brave Writer is the only thing that has remained the same. This is our third year using Brave Writer. It has worked so well for us and is something we look forward to in our homeschool day. There are many components to Brave Writer’s curriculum, but today I’m going to be reviewing the Arrow guides. I’m also writing a review on…

Curriculum Review: Life of Fred Elementary Math
Today I wanted to take some time to review one of our favorite curriculums – Life of Fred! Math was my least favorite subject growing up. I was homeschooled from the middle of third grade all the way to the end of high school and our math curriculum was usually Saxon math. If you were homeschooled, you probably have some form of loathing to this day toward Saxon 😜 One of my biggest goals in homeschooling was to find some way to make math fun. While I haven’t been entirely successful with that (math doesn’t come as naturally to Claire as some of her other subjects), Life of Fred has…
